Our Story

If it wasn't for Lake George, we would have never met.
We both grew up going to Lake George to vacation with our families, especially during the summer months.
Kyle's family stayed at Mayfair and Northward Ho! while Shannon's family started by camping on the islands and then rented cabins on Basin Bay.
Both of our childhood memories of the lake include Bolton Landing, boating, fishing, water sports, and campfires among dozens of other lake activities.
We may have even been there at the same time unbeknownst to us.
Over 10 years ago, Shannon was staying at the cabins at the lake before her senior year of high school and one of the other renters happened to be from northern New Jersey, too. Back in New Jersey, Shannon met his friends, one of them being Kyle. For the next couple of years we saw each other occasionally when hanging out with friends either in Jersey or up at the Kelly family's house on the lake.
One night Kyle found Shannon standing near the basement of her lake house clearly upset. With a few words of encouragement, Kyle was able to make her smile and something changed. Until that moment, we had truly only been acquaintances who saw each other when our friends got together. From then on, although neither of us would admit it for years, we both knew there was something more between us.
After years of trying to pretend that it wasn't meant to be, Shannon confronted Kyle during a ski trip once again in Lake George. Kyle admitted that it wasn't just her- he'd been in love with her for years. He was just better at hiding his feelings than she was.
A couple of months later, Kyle decided to take the jump and soon after he asked Shannon to be his girlfriend while sitting in RedGrey (Kyle's truck at the time) at Marist. To this day he can quote the date and time that she became his girl.
Four and a half years later, on Thanksgiving, Kyle and his parents came to the Kelly house for dessert. Kyle meticulously made a fire in the fireplace and then completely out of character asked Shannon to take a picture in front of it. After a few photos, he turned her toward the fire and told her how much he loved her. Then in front of both of our families, Kyle got down on one knee and asked Shannon to marry him.
And so the wedding planning began.
Some of the most defining moments of our relationship have happened at Lake George so it is only fitting that we will begin our happily ever after standing near the lake that brought us together.
